the land and life we love November 2011
Country Magazine

Giving thanks
Dear ##firstname[Friend]##,
##\keycode.DonorContentHTML##

The November issue of Country Extra is a special one. On page 35, you’ll find a keepsake 32-page section giving thanks for country, family, a bountiful land and the beauty of nature. On those pages we’ve paired heart-felt reader stories with amazing photography.

Ila Cox, for example, wrote about the role she played in World War II as the wife of a soldier overseas. She worked in a defense factory doing her part for the war effort. You can’t help but be grateful for Americans like Ila who stepped up to the plate during those hard times. As an added bonus, we compiled more of Ila’s war memories.

After reading Ila’s stories, be sure to visit with us on Facebook. You’ll find amazing photos posted by readers and new friends who share your love of Country.

My son-in-law was quizzing my 2-year-old grandson on opposites when he asked him a new one. “Calvin, what is the opposite of boy?” he asked. After giving it some thought, Calvin replied, “Quiet!”

Baked Apple Dumplings

Baked Apple Dumplings

These versatile dumplings can be made with peaches or mixed berries in place of apples, and drizzled with hot caramel sauce instead of icing. Add vanilla custard or ice cream, and it’s the perfect dessert.

Creamy Vanilla Coffee

Creamy Vanilla Coffee

My husband and his friends would often buy a similar version of this creamy, vanilla-flavored beverage at a nearby coffee house. Because daily stops got to be expensive, I decided to try and make my own. This smooth sensation was the result.
