When not preparing brunch dishes, Jenny Flake likes to lighten up other recipes for husband Cullen and sons Mason and Brady. “I try to lighten up my family recipes because it not only makes for a healthier lifestyle, but you feel better after eating a light meal,” Jenny explains.
By slowly integrating healthy foods into meals her family likes, Jenny makes sure everyone gets the nutrition they need. “I enjoy using fresh fruits and vegetables,” she says. “It brings so much flavor that you don’t need unhealthy ingredients for a good taste.”
Besides cooking, this health-smart mom works part-time as a dental hygienist and enjoys exercising, swimming and vacationing with her family. But she really loves to cook and experiment with healthy food. “Low-fat dairy products have been helpful in our diet,” Jenny explains, “and the same goes for whole wheat pasta. I never thought I would be a fan until I tried it; now it’s hard to go back to anything else.” |
