Meet This Month’s Cookbook Connoisseur…
Irene McDade!
“My cookbooks are like my children,” says Irene McDade. “Irreplaceable.”
Irene began collecting cookbooks in 1948, the year she was married. “Three rooms in my house are like libraries overflowing with cookbooks,” she says, and it’s no wonder. She has more than 1,000!
Irene enjoys cookbooks for the recipes, of course, but also for their other unique qualities. “Cookbooks…tell stories about different ethnic groups and regional cooking,” says Irene. “I read them all like a novel.”
With more than sixty years of cooking memories behind her, Irene says that one in particular stands out. “I won't forget as a newlywed cooking meatballs and spaghetti for my visiting aunt from California. I cooked enough spaghetti to feed Fort Dix, only to find out my aunt did not eat anything with garlic in it!”
With so many cookbooks, Irene is hard-pressed to choose a single favorite. “How can you have a favorite Taste of Home cookbook?” she laughs. “Each page has one or more recipes that have my taste buds salivating!” She even loves the ones with garlic! submit your story here. |
