Taste of Home Simple and Delicious Magazine
Dear NAME_FIRST,
I love a good theme party. Give me any opportunity to dress up and get together with pals, and I’m there. Especially for the biggest theme party of them all: Halloween. Handing out candy to trick-or-treaters is a highlight of fall, but when I see them bounding down the sidewalk in their costumes, I can’t help but want to join in. I usually throw on my trusty hot dog costume (my husband, Andy, is by my side dressed as a bottle of mustard) and pose as the kids shriek in a fit of giggles. It’s a hoot for everyone.

That’s why I'm extra-delighted to share this hilarious collection of food-themed costumes that Senior Editor Rachel Seis pulled together (don’t miss the homemade carrot costume she proudly wore as a child). This list is loaded with foodie inspiration for this year’s festivities.

And though the recipes in the current issues of Taste of Home and Simple & Delicious may not be costume material, that doesn’t make them any less irresistible. Check out my favorites below, and maybe even whip up one or two to fuel your own trick-or-treat fun.

Have a spooky-good month,

Emily Tyra, Editor

Back-to-School Suppers Recipe Contest

Now that the school year's in full swing, we want to see your brilliant dinner ideas that have been making school nights so much easier. Show us your smarts by turning five little ingredients into chicken with cornbread waffles, grilled steak with pineapple couscous and cheesy chorizo-stuffed poblanos. Or get speedy with 30-minute chicken enchilada calzones, creamy pesto shrimp and pulled pork shepherd’s pie. This time of year, the slow cooker is your best friend. Cook low and slow all day and come home to sausage meatball sliders or spiced chicken stew with corn and carrots. And cleanup’s a breeze when everything comes together in just one pot—think Cuban mojo chops with rice or your chili-spaghetti mashup meal. If your recipe makes busy nights easier and little faces smile, send it our way by November 16th!
