Bake 8 to 10 minutes
In large bowl, beat sugar and shortening until fluffy. Beat in eggs, vanilla and almond extract. Combine flour, salt and baking powder; stir into sugar mixture. Chill dough 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F. On lightly floured board, roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut shapes with cookie cutters or trace around pattern with knife. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned. Cool on rack. Hints: If cookies are to be hung for decoration, before baking pierce small hole in dough 1/2 inch from top edge. To decorate cookies: Before baking decorate with candied fruits, sprinkles or colored sugar. After baking, frost, then decorate with any of the above.
