Dear ##firstname[Friend]##,

Welcome to August! This is always one of my favorite months. There's something about all the brand-new erasers, pencils and notebooks I see at the grocery store that makes me feel like I have a fresh opportunity to try something new and shake up old routines. And, that definitely carries over to what I plan to eat this month!

Summer days have been hot in Wisconsin, so I'm really looking forward to trying our cool oven-free recipes. (The Lemony Grilled Salmon looks especially delicious!)

As a special treat for my husband, I may whip up one of the awesome guy food recipes here or one of the contest winners we feature in the August/September issue on p. 40. Or I may finally make the gorgeous Berry Patch Pie from our garden recipes collection.

We recently asked our Facebook fans whether banana popsicles were "hot or not." The results were "hot," and I have to agree, so I'll definitely be whipping up the chocolate covered banana in our fair food story.

What's on your August must-eat list? Be sure to let me know at simple@tasteofhome.com. Until next time, happy cooking and have a great month!

—Mary
