Picture From the Past

Picture From the Past

One of Lorraine Varipapa Ruffolo’s most vivid memories of her father, Andy Varipapa, is the day he left for Hollywood to appear in the movie Strikes and Spares. “It was 1934, and we lived in an apartment between the Stuyvesant and Bushwick sections of Brooklyn. I was on my way to school, and Dad walked me down two flights of stairs to the street. He kissed me and said, “Be a good girl. I’m going to Hollywood to show them how great your father is. I’ll tell you all about it when I get home.” He had to walk a few blocks to catch the train. I watched him stride out of sight with a suitcase in one hand and his bowling bag in the other.”

Barbecued Hot Dogs
Barbecued Hot Dogs

And now that you’re craving one of Coney Island’s finest, here’s a hot dog recipe to try from our friends at Taste of Home. Plus, there’s plenty more ideas here for good, old-fashioned summertime eats.
