Summertime sometimes takes me back to the days of devouring adventure stories from dime store paperbacks under the shade of our family’s backyard trees. How I loved to drift away to another world through a good book and ultimately doze off on a lounge chair or hammock.

Soldiers and Spies at York Beach

As a young boy, I lived on Long Sands Road at York Beach, Maine, just before and during World War II. … York Beach was just across the road from our house, and since it was so close to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, we were in a prime area for an attack.

Grandpa Loved His Limburger
