FIELD EDITOR NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2018
Field Editor News You Can Use:

Hello Field Editors!

Holy cow—it’s September! How on earth did that happen so fast? I have a lot to tell you about this month, so I’m going to dive right in.

New Look!

Some of you may have noticed that the September-October issue (the one with the yummy grilled cheese on the cover) has a new look. The editors have been working really hard on this for what feels like eons and are super excited to get your opinion.

Please take a few minutes to participate in an anonymous survey and give your honest feedback. I just know we can count on you guys, our most trusted readers, to give constructive feedback.

Halloween Time

Now, I know I’m a little early for Halloween but I’m trying to improve my reputation as a last-minute Lucy. We really need cute, non-gory Halloween ideas. These can be your original ideas or something you find on Pinterest. You can share a link using this form or submit your original creation to the misc category. Put Halloween Cuties in the notes section.

Something Fun!

A couple weeks ago I attended a training session for work that was all about using different Internet tools to figure out food trends. While most of the training was sort of technical jargon, they showed us a site called Rhythm of Food, and I instantly thought of you guys! This tool tells you what time of year people are searching for certain foods. For instance, people start looking for blueberry recipes and information in late June. I found that funny because where I live, blueberries don’t start ripening until the end of July, early August. Play around with it. We can talk more about it in our Facebook group.

Update: Recipe Review Contest

I’d love to say this issue has been fixed, but currently, it’s still not functioning correctly. What I told you last month still holds true. Write reviews at your own risk—they may or may not appear on the site. Even getting the 24-hour posting notice doesn’t appear to be a guarantee. With all that said, I’m going to put the August contest on hold. I promise, as soon as I get the all clear, I will post in our group. In the meantime, Ellie and I are going to put our heads together and come up with something fun for you.

Recipe Contest Rundown

The Summer Fruit Dessert Contest ends September 13, 2018. You have 3 days to submit your creations.

The Summer Potluck Contest ends September 28, 2018. Did you make something fabulous for Labor Day? Share it soon.

Electric Pressure Cooker runs until October 1, 2018 (I just grabbed a cute 3 quart one—LOVE it!)

Air Fryer Recipe Contest continues until November 1, 2018. I cooked meatballs in mine for a party because it’s been super hot and muggy here. SO impressed! Check the Facebook group for a post; we’ll brainstorm this one.

You can enter the Everyday Fresh Contest right through Thanksgiving. That one ends November 27, 2018. So much fresh produce out there right now, perfect for creating new recipes that use just-picked ingredients.

Last but certainly not least, the Best-Ever Baking Contest. Remember Darlene’s beautiful Christmas Star Bread from last year? You guys impress me so much with your talents, I have no doubts I’ll see many of you at the top of this contest.

I think that’s everything! Be sure to check out the brand-new recipe callouts below. I think you’ll have fun digging into old recipe boxes for the Vintage Recipes requests.

Happy cooking, my friends!
