Hello Field Editors!


Last month I started off talking about the never-ending winter—it had even snowed the week before I penned the newsletter. Well, now it’s full-steam summer, and I do mean steam! We’ve been hot and humid for days, and I might have to break out the AC units. Planning meals becomes a challenge when it’s so hot. Anyone have great tips for beat-the-heat meals? Early morning prep tips? Takeout advice? Great grilling ideas? Share them with me and the rest of the group on Facebook. Let’s figure out how to stay cool together.

Recipe Hunters:


I have a challenge for you. I’d like you to search our site for recipes that could be considered copycats. These recipes should remind you of either a prepared product or a restaurant menu favorite. Check out this collection of slow-cooked copycat recipes to see what I mean. You can share your link with me using the recipe hunter form. Use the comment section to note the taste-alike information (i.e. Applebee’s Neighborhood Nachos or Hamburger Helper Stroganoff).

Sandwiches, Burgers and Sliders Recipe Contest ends Tuesday, July 3rd. I’m encouraging all of you to submit your recipes no later than Friday, June 29th. That way there’s time to confirm your entry and address any tech issues that pop up. Things should be fine, but my motto is always to plan for the worst, hope for the best.


You’ll want to really think outside the box here if you plan to one-up some of the awesome sandwiches on our site already. Copycats are always great, take a peek at a menu from your favorite burger joint for inspiration. Downsize your favorite hoagie! (Do they call them hoagies where you live?) Italian Hoagie Sliders has a nice ring to it! Message me if you want to brainstorm for this contest—I’m happy to help. Don’t forget to take a peek at the official rules, too.
