Hello Field Editors,

My goodness, this summer has been a hot one. Are y'all keeping cool? I keep trying to remind myself that it won't be long before it's snowing and blowing here. Our county fair starts on the 13th—for some reason that always signifies the end of summer for us. The nights get cold, the trees start to turn, and fall starts sneaking its way in. Best to enjoy the summer while we have it, right?

As you'll see below, I'm still asking for summer slow cooker recipes. This is one category that our readers simply can't get enough of. We're all so crazy busy, we just want one thing we don't have to think aboutmdash;and if that's a meal, even better! Talk to me if you have ideas but aren't sure how they'll play out. Let's put our heads together and develop something great.

Back-to-school season is right around the corner! Time to start thinking about lunchbox packables and after-school treats: quick, healthy meals that can be made ahead or served on the go, and protein-packed extras to feed busy kids and (grownups) with full plates.

Finally, with all the negative things going on in the world, I thought it would be nice to shed some light on the positive. This month we're celebrating our hardworking, recipe-creating volunteer Field Editors who earned a spot in the following bookazines (which are on sale at a market near you). Excellent job, gang! You seriously have no idea how proud I am to have each and every one of you on my team.

I hope your summer has been a happy one thus far, full of good food and laughter. Hard to believe that the next time I write to you all will be after Labor Day. Ack! On that note…

Happy cooking, my friends!

Here’s what we’re seeking for this month’s requests:
Simple Seafood
Topic 1:
Slow-Cooked Breakfast:
Ready, set, breakfast! We’re looking to wake up to breakfast, warm and ready. Gooey, warm cinnamon rolls or quiche brimming with the best ingredients. Fill the slow cooker the night before, then nestle it into the base first thing in the morning and enjoy your coffee instead of standing over a stove. Think short slow cooker times (two to four hours) or super-long, overnight ideas for a hearty oatmeal. Share your slow-cooked breakfast brilliance here.
Surprise-Inside Sweets
Topic 2:
Salads:
Enter the contest by September 9, 2016, for a shot at $500. Got a fresh, fab original? We want a taste of summer salads filled with crisp greens, grilled meat or crunchy veggies. And pass those potluck salads! Think tangy bean, jiggly Jell-O, creamy pasta, better-than-deli chicken salad and more. Submit your recipe here.
Toast for Breakfast
Topic 3:
Slow-Cooked Summer: REPEAT ALERT!
We still need recipes for this one. Think about sandwich stuffers, saucy toppers, stir-ins or camp-friendly sides. If you can simmer it on the stovetop, consider simmering it in your slow cooker. Maybe you have an idea for a dish that can be prepped ahead and kept warm for serving. Let us see your favorite ways to serve up summer. Submit your creations here.
