Hello Field Editors,

Many of you have asked how to create your own original recipes when, in fact, all of your favorite recipes actually come from Taste of Home.  I’m here to tell you, it’s easier than you think!<p>

Take one of your favorite recipes that you and your family adore and come up with at least THREE major changes to the recipe that really make it different.<p>

  • Swap a different herb and/or spice to give it a very different flavor.
  • Change the cooking technique. For example, take a stovetop recipe that typically uses a Dutch oven and make it in a slow cooker instead.
  • Use a different cut of meat or make it meatless.

When you make three changes or more, and your family absolutely loves your updates, create a new recipe name and submit your latest creation to us. Hint: Your fellow home cooks love twists on classic recipes.  <p>

"I’m really thankful for the privilege of being able to join Taste of Home magazine’s editor, Jeanne Ambrose, on a recent trip to the California Olive Ranch. The tour was interesting and the people who work there are really passionate about what they do.  I learned so much and came away with a great appreciation for what it takes to produce olive oil.

Being a part of the Taste of Home family, sharing recipes, and my love for cooking with others, is a wonderful way for me to honor my mom’s memory. I have always loved to cook, a trait I inherited from my mom, who passed away 13 years ago.  By preparing great meals and baking for my family and others, I feel I am carrying on her legacy."
