HAPPY FALL!

Now that the weather is changing, I find myself switching to comfort food. (Of course, all food is comfort food to me!)

Teresa Heaney, a Field Editor from Belfast, New York, is in the mood, too. She sent us her quick and easy recipe for Nutmeg Spiced Milk, which her mother and grandmother served over warm apple crisp.  Thanks, Teresa. We’re including it in the October issue of Taste of Home in our slightly revised Field Editors section.

We’re also showing off a recipe from Field Editor Zia McNeal: Halloween Poison Punch. Zia lives in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Flag Cake

Plus we’re scattering more Field Editor photos throughout our special Field Editor section so our readers get to see the faces behind our volunteer team of editors. Let us know what you think of the October issue—and be sure to send us an updated photo.

And thanks to those who responded to my last plea for recipes, we’ve got some melt-in-your-mouth ones to pick from for our special Ice Cream story.

Here’s another request for recipes. We’re already planning our June through August 2012 stories, so think summer!

We’re in need of recipes for:
1. Take the Heat. We’ve noticed more people are using chili peppers, hot sauces (like sriracha), and chili oils in cooking. Send us your spiced-up summertime recipes, from cocktails to summery soups to main dishes to desserts.

2. No Cook Recipes. Who wants to heat up the stove on a hot summer day? How do you make a main-dish salad? What about starting with a can of beans? Do you have a new twist on gazpacho? It’s OK to call for cooked shrimp or even deli roasted chicken from the market, but we’d love to have most of the ingredients taste like summer (think fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs). What about a no-cook dessert, perhaps a fresh watermelon sorbet (or a watermelon margarita)?

3. Party on the Patio. Got ideas or recipes for an outdoor summertime bash? Quick and easy, or elaborate and elegant.

4. And Deviled Eggs. We’re looking for the best ever deviled egg. What do you do to make it a little bit different but still irresistible? (I sometimes stir a little sour cream in with the mayo and yolks when I make mine. Then I top them with smoked salmon and capers. Or crispy bacon. Mmmm. Bacon.)

Send your recipes to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com, with Summertime in the subject line.

And feel free to drop me a line anytime to let me know what’s eating you, or what you are eating.
