FIELD EDITOR NEWSLETTER

March 25, 2011

Hi everyone, Hope this newsletter finds you well. While the days warm up and the snow’s almost melted here in Greendale, we’re already talking about tailgating, Thanksgiving turkey—and beyond. Which leads me to this next item:

WHAT’S YOUR RESOLUTION?

Did you make a New Year’s resolution that’s food-related? Or do you already have one in mind for next year? Maybe you want to learn a new technique or how to eat with chopsticks. Perhaps you’d like to teach your child to cook, or break out of the same old rut when it comes to meat loaf.

We want to know what you’ve resolved to do this year or next year—or even about a past kitchen- or food-related resolution you actually resolved.

We’ve got a short deadline on this one. So please drop us a line by April 8. Please send to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com and include the word “resolution” on the subject line. Thanks!

CLOSE TO HOME

The “Close to Home” section of Taste of Home always opens with a short story or kitchen memory from one of our readers. They’re often heart-warming, like Field Editor Judy Batson’s touching story in the Feb/March issue. Sometimes they are fun and funny, like Field Editor Kallee Twiner’s tale of passing the fruitcake.

We are continually looking for stories for this well-read opener. Maybe it’s a kitchen-related memory of an aunt, a friend or neighbor; or a funny experience cooking with your kids in the kitchen. Or share a story about a memorable Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day or other holiday.

Please submit, as usual, to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com and type “home” on the subject line.

“I was on the stair stepper at the gym and three ladies approached me, each holding a Taste of Home magazine open to one of my recipes. They wanted my autograph! They had recognized me from my photo, and had tried the recipe and loved it.” —Trisha Kruse, Eagle, Idaho

“My friend’s daughter got married last year to a man from the eastern part of the state. (We live in the west.) She received the Taste of Home Cookbook as a shower gift, and as her husband glanced through it, he noticed a recipe for Cherry Pie with my name and town. He asked, ‘Do you know her?’ She said she most certainly did.” —Frances Poste, Wall, South Dakota

Julie Butler

“I recently started a new job as a cook at our community college cafe. Several teachers and staff members recognized me from a cooking demo I did on our local PBS channel. But a co-worker in the cafe asked if I was the Field Editor in her Taste of Home magazine. She had seen my name in the Field Editor list and on my “Root for Winter Vegetables” recipe in the December/January 2011 issue.” —Julie Butler, Puyallup, Washington

FIELD EDITOR FUN

If you’ve held a class, appeared on local television or in the newspaper, spoke at an event or promoted Taste of Home some other way in your community, please let us know about it, like these women did:

Trisha Kruse
Ruth
Hartunian-Alumbaugh
* Throughout December, Ruth Hartunian-Alumbaugh of Willimantic, Connecticut, shared her favorite recipes in the local newspaper. Included was a color photo of Ruth from the “Love the Pie” event she participated in for Taste of Home and Pillsbury last fall.

* Sue Ross of Casa Grande, Arizona, was featured on the front page of her local newspaper on Dec. 24, 2010. The story told about her work on the town’s annual Christmas Day dinner for the homeless. She has been volunteering with this project since 1994.
