FIELD EDITOR NEWSLETTER October 25, 2010

The weather’s cooler, days are getting shorter, and here in Wisconsin, we’re savoring weekend trips to apple orchards and pumpkin patches. Hope you’re taking advantage of the autumn harvests, and all the tempting recipes in our October/November issue. There’s lots of news to share, so let’s get started:

WE WANT YOUR RECIPES!

We’re finishing up our huge December/January issue and looking ahead into next year’s editions. We hope you’ll share some of your favorite recipes in the following categories.

Please submit them to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com and remember to include your name, phone number and mailing address on each recipe. Please put “newsletter response” on the subject line of your E-mail. Deadline is Friday, November 19. Here’s what we’re looking for:

Summer Party DrinksSummer Party Drinks: Share those fizzy, fun and refreshing beverages that keep you cool by the pool on hot summer days.

Tailgating Favorites: No longer just hot dogs and burgers, tailgating get-togethers have become regular feasts. Send us your most-requested grilled foods, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and desserts that travel well to sporting events.

Quick Fixes: We want those speedy recipes you rely on when packing lunches for work or school. These noon-hour foods should take 30 minutes or less to prepare.

The Heat is On: Peppers are hot, from ancho and Anaheim to jalapeno and poblano. How do you use these popular ingredients in your cooking? We’re looking for main dishes, sides and relishes.

Cookie Exchange: The holiday countdown has already begun, and that means Christmas cookie baking can’t be far behind. Please send us your most-have cookie recipes.
And, if you participate in a cookie exchange of any kind, please let us know about it. Do you have tips to make the event stress-free and successful? Share those, too!

Wake Up Your Taste Buds! Have you tried a new coffeecake recipe lately? We need your favorites, the ones you share with family and friends over coffee or tea.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

Have you been recognized in public as a Taste of Home Field Editor? We want to hear your stories. Please send them to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com and put “Close Encounters” in the subject line.

“A woman walked up to me at church and said, ‘Guess what my husband and I saw last night?’ She said they had seen my name in their latest issue of Taste of Home and couldn’t believe that they new someone mentioned in the magazine.”
—Jen Crozier, Mount Pleasant, Utah

“Actually, my husband, Rion, is the one who has been recognized. He went to a local restaurant to pick up a take-out order and was congratulated for being married to a Taste of Home Field Editor.”
—Crystal Jo Bruns, Iliff, Colorado

“When picking up a prescription at the pharmacy, the woman who waited on me said, ‘You’re in my Taste of Home as a Field Editor. I gave my friend a subscription and told her I knew one of the Field Editors.’ I hadn’t been a field editor for long, so it was very exciting for me to be recognized.”
—Ellen Folkman, Crystal Beach, Florida

REMEMBER TO UPDATE YOUR ADDRESS!

Recently, our public relations firm tried to contact a Field Editor by mail and found out she hadn’t lived there for over 3 years! Our PR folks get their information from our editorial staff, but that information is only as good as you make it. Please remember that if you move, you MUST contact Jane Stasik (Jane_Stasik@rd.com) as well as our subscription department. Thanks for your help!

That's it for this month. See you in November.
