You may see one of them in print! DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 16. ----------------- FIELD EDITOR FUN ----------------- If you’ve attended a Taste of Home Cooking School, spoke at an event or promoted Taste of Home some other way in your community, please let us know about it! Virginia Watson of Kirksville, Missouri worked closely with the local Chamber of Commerce to bring the Taste of Home Cooking School to town in 2007 and earlier this year. “For the Cooking School in 2007, the Chamber director wanted the volunteers assisting the culinary specialist to have chef hats, but they cost too much. I remembered that I had a pattern for a chef hat and was able to make 12 of them quickly for a little over $2 each. They were such a hit that I made additional ones for the April show this year. In the photo, that’s me in the front row on the right with the other volunteers.” Lynne German (avidcookGA) of Norcross, Georgia recently posted on tasteofhome.com about her lunch with friends she met on the community forums. She wrote: “It was wonderful to meet my cyber friends today and get to know them over some really good southern food… It was like we already knew each other.” They plan on getting together again soon. You can read more about the gathering in the private Field Editor Forum. Kim Wallace of Dennison, Ohio is teaching a class for both the winter and spring sessions of the Buckeye Career Center Adult Education program in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The Career Center is promoting the new class as “Make It & Take It Cooking with a Taste of Home Field Editor.” Have a great time, Kim! We want to hear about it! Send your story to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com. Please put “Close Encounters” on the subject line. “I was picking up my son at the Austin airport, and one of his pieces of luggage didn’t make the flight. We went to file a claim, and as we were giving the woman behind the counter his information, she said, “I know you.” Turns out, she is a Taste of Home subscriber and recognized my name from the magazine.” —Susan Garoutte, Georgetown, Texas “In September, we held our 24th annual Apple Festival, and again, I ran the apple pie contest. There were 40 pies entered. Many people came up to me and asked if I was the Mary Landis in Taste of Home. They all had great comments about the magazine.” —Mary Landis, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania “Several weeks ago, I was shopping in Wal-Mart and the woman at the check-out recognized my name when I wrote a check. As we talked, a few ladies in line joined in. It’s such a wonderful feeling when people recognize the magazine, the recipes and anyone associated with Taste of Home. —Alcy Thorne, Los Molinos, California ----------------- FOR YOUR BLOG ----------------- For cooking enthusiasts who have taken their passion on-line and started a blog, we offer the following new tasteofhome.com recipe features for content ideas.
