FIELD EDITOR NEWSLETTER February 25, 2009

Dear ##firstname[Friend]##,

Welcome to the new, improved Field Editor Newsletter. Not only do we have a new format, but we also will be coming to you more frequently. Here in Greendale, we’re really looking forward to spring…so let’s spring into action with our latest news.

Visit Our New Field Editor Forum

Have you visited our lively on-line community recently? Now’s a great time to do so. We’ve extended the Field Editor program on-line, and several current Field Editors, plus many new volunteers, are being acknowledged with an eye-catching Field Editor "badge" similar to the one in the magazine.

As part of their daily on-line activities, Field Editors welcome new users, answer questions, and share recipes and cooking tips. They also have fun "chatting" with one another in a private forum just for Field Editors. In fact, the private forum has quickly become the perfect place to share ideas and get up-to-the-minute information from the Taste of Home editorial team on needs for upcoming magazine issues. And it’s available 24-7!

If you’re already a registered user of the Taste of Home on-line community, send an email to Bob Ottum (Bob_Ottum@rd.com) or a PM to love2cook (Bob’s on-line nickname.) Bob will add a Field Editor badge to your on-line "siggy" and give you access to the Field Editor forum.

Not a registered user? Join now! Then contact Bob for your Field Editor badge and access to the Field Editor forum.

We look forward to seeing you soon on-line!

Smile! We Want Your Photo

You probably noticed in the current Feb/March issue that we’ve moved and expanded our “Field Editor Spotlight.” (See page 8.) Many of you do not have a photo on file, so please send in a current color photo to Editorial Assistant Jane Stasik (Jane_Stasik@rd.com) so we can consider you for our Spotlight feature. Please submit the photo as a jpeg at 300 dpi.

Exclusive Travel Discount

Three Taste of Home Tours with multiple departure dates are scheduled for 2009, and you are personally invited to utilize our exclusive $200 per person Field Editor discount.

Future Food Topics

We want your recipes! We have some terrific topics lined up for future issues of Taste of Home. Please share your best, most creative recipes in these categories. Please E-mail recipes to fieldeditors@tasteofhome.com. Remember to include your name, phone number and mailing address on each recipe along with the category name. Please put “newsletter response” on the subject line. Deadline for recipes is Friday, March 20.

  • Budget-Friendly Foods: Please share with us the recipes your family loves that are comforting and satisfying yet keep your household finances in check. The recipes can be made from scratch or use less expensive cuts of meat, canned food or other convenience items.
  • Halloween: We’re looking for cute party foods, from sandwiches to sweets, that are ghoulishly delicious and have plenty of kid appeal.
  • Great Gobblers: Have you tried a new way to prepare your Thanksgiving turkey that’s become a tradition? Maybe it’s a different cooking technique or a new combination of herbs. Send the turkey recipe your family yearns for every year. Don’t forget to include your tried-and-true tips for making that perfect bird.
  • Slow Cooked Convenience: Many cooks use their slow cooker(s) on Thanksgiving Day to free up the oven. If you do, we’d like to have your favorite holiday sides that can be prepared in this ever-popular appliance.

Video Kitchen Tours »

Have you gone on-line to see our first video kitchen tour? When homeowner Dawnita Phillips of Drexel, Missouri welcomed us into her renovated kitchen for the Feb/March issue, she also took us on a video tour. That video has been very popular with visitors to tasteofhome.com. Watch the video»

Close Encounters

Have you been “recognized” as a field editor? These ladies have. Please share your close encounters, too!

“Several of our church members visited a large church in a nearby city to hear a guest speaker. At the beginning of the service, the pastor announced that there was a celebrity in attendance: their own Louisiana field editor. He was talking about me! I was shocked! He went on to tell the crowd that Taste of Home was his favorite magazine.” —Betty Janway, Ruston, Louisiana

“I had a call from a lady recently who was visiting her relative here in Smyrna. She came across my name and called to ask if I was ‘that Sharon Manus, who’s a Taste of Home field editor.’ I told her I was, and we had a very nice chat.” —Sharon Manus, Smyrna, Tennessee

“While shopping one day, a man came up to me and asked, ‘Are you buying supplies to make something for the magazine?’ Obviously, he’d seen my name in an issue and found out I was a field editor.” —Joyce Daubert, Pine Grove, Pennsylvania
