Dear $$firstname$$

I have important news about your gift subscription for $$personalparm1$$ – it may be expiring soon. We recently mailed you a special offer to renew your gift subscriptions and you should be receiving it soon, but one of the great benefits of Birds & Blooms Plus is access to our easy online gift renewal service. Just click here to renew now.

This year, I spent the first day of autumn at a wedding in St. Louis in 93-degree heat. It didn’t feel much like fall, but I know cooler days—and nights—aren’t far away.

With the change of seasons, I’m trying to be patient as I wait for the potted mums I faithfully watered all summer to bloom. It’s worth the effort when I have bright, homegrown chrysanthemums to display on my front porch, but I always worry that these late summer heat spells will do them in.

The other garden duties are slowing down a bit, which makes autumn a good time to collect seeds. Even if you’ve never tried it before, it can’t hurt to shake loose some seeds from your favorite flowers. And if you don’t use them yourself, you can always share them with family and friends. For some tips about how to do this, read our subscriber-only Saving Seeds article.

Also in this month’s Web Plus, you’ll find some easy Bird Photography Tips. Perhaps they’ll help you capture that great shot of a colorful bird as it migrates through your yard (then don’t forget to share it with fellow readers through our Submit Your Story link). And, impress your bird-watching friends with interesting Bald Eagle Trivia.
