From the Expert

George

George Harrison,
Birding Expert

I have a problem with a bully hummingbird that's always chasing the other hummers away. Is there anything I can do?
—Shirley Ann Irwin, Riverside, California

George: A bully hummingbird is usually the dominant male of the territory. In some cases, he will only allow "his" females and offspring to feed there. Give other hummers a chance to feed by putting up more sugar-water feeders. Place them as far away as possible and out of sight of the feeder that attracts the dominant hummingbird.

For answers to your birding questions, visit our Bird Expert section of our website.
